Forked Android interface for Nokia 'Normandy' leaks with flat design

Elements of Windows Phone leak into alleged Nokia Android screenshots

Nokia has given Android a Windows Phone-style makeover, according to new leaked images reported to depict the codenamed "Normandy" smartphone. A calling screen, a home screen, and the default Skype sign-in pages are shown in the alleged photo, showing a generally flat user interface scheme on top of the forked mobile operating system.

It is said by the @evleaks Twitter account that the Normandy will use virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen instead of physical versions, though this appears to counter an earlier image that appears to show a more permanent back button at the base of the screen. The images also tout indicators at the top of the display for two SIM cards, suggesting that the Normandy could be a device destined for Asia and emerging markets, areas that dual-SIM smartphones are typically marketed to.

The future of the Android-based Normandy smartphone is still unknown, as it is believed that the acquisition of Nokia's mobile phone business by Microsoft will effectively kill the project. If it is still being prepared for sale, Nokia could reveal more details at Mobile World Congress in February.
