Ultra HD screens added to Toshiba performance notebooks

Fresh off the back of its first Chromebook unveiling, Toshiba has launched two new notebooks with 4K-resolution displays. The upgraded Tecra W50 and the Satellite P50t, complete with Ultra HD screens, are accompanied by an updated Kirabook, with the Ultrabook now packing a Haswell-based Intel Core i7 processor, though not UHD high-resolution screen.

The Tecra W50 offers a 15.6-inch screen in a notebook weighing less than six pounds. Meant for high performance tasks such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, it uses 4th generation Intel Core processors, and a Kepler-based Nvidia Quadro K2100M GPU with 2GB of dedicated video memory. The Satellite P50t uses the same display, this time with edge-to-edge glass and touch capabilities, with the Windows 8.1 device also using Haswell-based Intel Core processors.

The Kirabook's upgrade to Haswell is said to extend the original's battery life up to 9 hours, though the rest of the device stays mostly the same. Using a touch-enabled 2560x1440 13.3-inch display, it has 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, and Harman Kardon stereo speakers embedded in its 0.7-inch, 2.6-pound magnesium alloy case.
