Briefly: LaCie Culbuto USB key, FitBit expands Android compatibility

updated 12:31 pm EST, Tue January 7, 2014

LaCie Culbuto USB key designed as wobbly decorative object

Storage product manufacturer LaCie announced today its latest USB key, the Culbuto. Its aesthetics suggest a decorative inspiration -- for when it is not connected to a computer, the LaCie Culbuto stands upright on its round end, and wobbles from side to side. The name 'Culbuto' comes from the French, a toy with a weighted base that keeps the object vertical, even after it is knocked over. Equipped with a USB 3.0 connector on the "top" end, the Culbuto has a soft-touch rubber exterior, and features a slit to hold a photo or business card.

The LaCie Culbuto is available online and from LaCie retailers in 16GB and 32GB capacities, with pricing starting at $50.

FitBit Expands Android compatibility with Bluetooth Sync support on twelve more devices

FitBit has announced that its wireless activity and sleep trackers can now sync directly to 12 additional Android devices through the latest version of the FitBit app. FitBit has supported BlueTooth syncing since early 2013 for Samsung's Galaxy S III, S4, Note II, Note III and Note 10.1, and has now added the Droid Mini, Ultra, Maxx, Razr M, Razr HD, Razr HD Maxx, HTC One, LG G2, Moto X, and Nexus 4, 5 and 7.

Direct syncing to the FitBit app means that users can see real-time activity stats from their FitBit device, which tracks everything from steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned and sleep quality. Bluetooth syncing is available when using FitBit Force ($130), FitBit Flex ($100), FitBit One ($100) and FitBit Zip ($60). The FitBit app is available in the Google Play store, and is also available for iOS devices through iTunes.
