Apple to celebrate Lunar New Year in Asia with one-day sale

'Red Friday' event coming to China, Hong Kong, Thailand, more

Apple is celebrating the Lunar New Year in select Asian countries with a one-day sales event dubbed "Red Friday." The sale will take place in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand on Friday, January 10. Both the physical stores as well as the online and iOS App Stores for those countries will offer sale prices on various items, including both Mac and iOS hardware as well as Apple and perhaps third-party accessories.



The event is roughly akin to the "Black Friday" sales, which suggests that Apple may again offer Apple gift cards rather than rebates or discounts as it did this year in North America (European stores saw mostly traditional straight discounts). The actual Lunar New Year happens on Friday, January 31. While no specific price cuts or sale items have been announced, last year Apple cut prices (usually 10 percent or less, however) on a selection of Macs, iPads, iPods and accessories.
