Newell notes DotA2 more popular than Monday Night Football

Valve's Gabe Newell took the stage at CES tonight, with some remarks on his Steam digital game distribution service, and to provide attendees a list of 13 third-party Steam machines, intended to run Linux and play a percentage of the games on the service on a television, rather than a traditional PC setup on a desk.

Newell spoke of Steam's track record with gamers, nothing that Defense of the Ancients 2 garnered more spectators than the US's Monday Night Football. When asked about Microsoft's Xbox One sales of three million announced earlier in the day, Newell responded that "actually, it's gonna take them a long time to catch up: we already have about 65 million users." Xbox Live as a service has about 48 million users.

Manufacturers include Alternate, Dell's Alienware, CyberPowerPC, Falcon Northwest, Gigabyte, Origin PC, Webhallen, Scan Computer, Zotac, Next Spa, Scan, iBuyPower, and Digital Storm. Specifications and prices vary, from as low as $600 for the Zotac offering to well over $6,000 for some custom configurations.

    Nice!

Competition is good... God bless capitalism. I hope they crush the XBONE.
