Haswell Core i7 tablet designed for high performance applications

Panasonic today at the 2014 International CES announced the US availability of the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 tablet, a 20-inch tablet with a 4K resolution display. Featuring an Intel Core i7-3687U vPro processor with an Nvidia Quadro K1000M GPU. The Toughpad 4K performance model is aimed at professionals in visual-intensive fields such as computer-aided design (CAD) and video editing.

The 20-inch IPS Alpha LCD screen with 10-point multitouch runs at 3840x2560, and features 230 pixels per inch at a 15:10 aspect ratio. Storage is provided by a 256GB SSD, with Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Professional running on 16GB of RAM.

Connectivity is provided by a Mini DisplayPort, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 (Class 1), USB 3.0, SDXC card slot, a smart card reader, a docking connector, and a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port. The battery is expected to run for 2.5 hours before depletion.

Accessories available with separate purchase are the Panasonic desktop cradle and carrying case solution, giving the tablet three USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, and HDMI-out. Also available is the Panasonic Electronic Touch Pen, which uses infrared signals to distinctly read each pixel on the screen and communicates with the tablet via Bluetooth. It is claimed that it can interpret more than 2,000 levels of pressure.

The Toughpad 4k UT-MA6 will be available some time this spring at a list price of $7,000. The previously announced Toughpad 4k with an i5 processor will retail for $6,000.
