Update brings iOS 7-style interface, unified application, more
Musical app maker IK Multimedia has unveiled its redesigned mobile loop-based music-making app, Groovemaker 2 -- currently available for the iPhone and iPod touch, but with a future update bringing a universal version that will work natively on the iPad. The updated app features a "completely redesigned" iOS 7-style interface, a new Grid interface that allows for simplified loop remixing, a new high-quality time stretch function, new sharing features and more.
The program is now compatible with the Audiobus, Inter-App Audio and X-Sync standards for audio file exchange, and also offers new sharing options including Audio Copy, email, Wi-Fi, FTP and SoundCloud. There is a new master control with Compressor, EQ, and Filter; a new real-time recorder for capturing and playing back remix performances; the time-stretch function allows seamless groove tempo variation in a range from 50 percent to 200 percent of the original BPM without changing the pitch, and the app is now unified so that all the loop collections a user has amassed are available in one place.
GrooveMaker 1 loop packs bought previously are unlocked and usable in GrooveMaker 2 upon registration, and import functions now allow users to import audio files or record their own grooves within the existing collection. The app includes free songs (one in the free version, four in the full version and more available through in-app purchases), 16 packs available in 60 song collections, and 16 available effects with automation and a touchpad-like interface.
Single loop durations and groove durations can now be freely selected down to a quarter-bar, with new one-eighth and one-32nd live repeat functions available on full grooves for dramatic effect. The Grid interface supports loop remixing by "drawing" on screen among other methods. In all, there are over 3,600 available loops covering all manner of styles. The program can be used in a live setting for real-time groove creation to bridge dance music, as a scoring program for videos, or just creating non-stop dance sets for exercise, party DJing or other activities.
The program is available in a free version with reduced loops and FX, and a full version for $10. Groovemaker "songs" (collections of 60 loops that are designed to work together) can be purchased individually, and additional Groovemaker packs are available as in-app purchases, varying in price from $4 to $6. The program is now available on the iOS App Store, with a future update promised for universal compatibility.
