Google, HP start shipping updated Chromebook 11 chargers

updated 05:26 am EST, Fri December 20, 2013

Chromebook shipping back to retailers, replacement chargers being issued

Google and HP have started shipping the Chromebook 11 to retailers again, following the charger recall. The Chrome OS notebook remains unchanged, except that it is supplied with a charger that appears to be from the Chromebook Pixel with a micro-USB tip, though apparently it charges at a slower rate to the charger originally supplied with the device.

While the shipments have started again, such as the one received by 9to5Google, Google has yet to update its product pages to show it as available again, but this is likely to change soon. The new chargers supplied with the Chromebook 11 will in theory eliminate the potential overheating and melting issue of the original, with Google having also created a claiming form for existing Chromebook 11 owners to get a replacement version.

The Chromebook 11 uses an 11.6-inch, 1366x768 display, and has a Samsung Exynos 5250 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, Verizon LTE, two USB ports, a VGA webcam, and a 30Wh battery are also included in the device, along with 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years, 12 free GoGo inflight Internet service and a 60-day trial of Google Play Music.
