LG to show 105-inch curved Ultra HD TV, WebOS smart TV at CES

updated 07:36 am EST, Thu December 19, 2013

Large curved display can show higher-than-4K resolution, uses TFT instead of OLED

LG has revealed two more televisions that it will be showing off at CES in January at the same time as its Ultrawide 4K monitor and the Chromebase all-in-one computer. A television the company calls the world's first 105-inch curved Ultra HD set will make an appearance alongside a smart TV running on WebOS, the operating system the company picked up from HP earlier this year.

The Ultra HD television, model number 105UB9, will apparently have a resolution far higher than normal 4K, with the company boasting it to be capable of showing a 5,120x2,160 image. Rather than using an OLED panel for the display, such as in its most-recent effort, the 21:9 CinemaScope screen will use a refined TFT process to "prevent color leakage" and to solve the issues associated with uneven backlighting.

The WebOS television will apparently have a 2.2GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, reports ZDNet, though LG researcher Hong Sung-pyo stopped short of advising the size or other specifications of the device.

Launch timing and prices for both displays are likely to be issued at CES itself.
