Configurator 1.4.3 fixes VPP redemption issues, other bugs

On Thursday, Apple updated its enterprise Mac program for iOS device mass-configuration, Apple Configurator, now at version 1.4.3. The update improves redemption of Volume Purchase Program (VPP) codes when installing App Store apps by fixing an issue in which valid codes were incorrectly reported as "already redeemed." It also resolves a problem with skipping Setup Assistant steps while preparing an unsupervised device, and fixes an issue that could prevent the app from being quit. It requires OS X 10.8 or later, and is available free on the Mac App Store.

Skype update for Mac brings stability, improved search, more

Microsoft-owned Skype has updated its Mac version of the VOIP, videoconferencing and chatting utility to version 6.12.59.431. The release is mainly a bug-fix update that focuses on "improving stability and reducing crashes," according to the company. Some improvements have been made to launch behavior, and the Dial Pad's suggestion menu. A number of low-level changes that are said to reduce random crashes have been implemented along with changes to flag tooltips in the conversation view and other fixes.

The search function implemented in the last release has also been updated to that users can search for text in status messages. The free program requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6 or later and a microphone. A built-in or supported third-party webcam is required for video conferencing. Subscription options are available that add cell and landline calling in North America, with options to buy credits for other international calls and texts.
