Microsoft pulls problematic Surface Pro 2 update, fix in 2014

Patch either fails to install, or drastically reduces battery life

Microsoft has retracted its latest update to its Surface line of tablets, citing user complaints. According to support forums and assorted user reports, the December update to the tablet is failing installation for most. Even if installation is successful, the patch negatively impacts battery life, among other flaws.

The update is for the Surface Pro 2 tablet, and is part of the December range of security patches and other updates. Microsoft says that in order "to ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published."

Users that have installed the patch will have to wait for fixes. A new patch isn't expected until after the holiday season though the company may be able to publish a corrected update before Christmas.
