iPhone 5s, 5c rank high in Google's Zeitgeist

Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were among the most searched-for gadgets of 2013, according to Google Zeitgeist. The search giant's annual publication of the hottest search terms of the year saw Apple's new high end iPhone battling with Samsung's Galaxy S4 for supremacy in smartphone searches, but the iPhone 5c - essentially a repackaged iPhone 5 - also ranked high on Google's Zeitgeist list, indicating that consumers were interested to see just what Apple would come out with for what was initially thought to be a "low-cost iPhone."

The iPhone 5s came in in third place overall, behind Nelson Mandela and Paul Walker. Among smartphones, though, Apple's iPhone 5s took the top spot, beating out the Galaxy S4 for the most searched-for handset. The iPhone 5c took third place, followed by the HTC One and Google's Nexus 5.

Occupying the number one slot among tech gadgets was Sony's PlayStation 4. The new console, which launched recently at the end of months of hype, beat out all other tech challengers for 2013, besting not only Samsung and Apple handsets and tablets, but also the Xbox One from Microsoft. The PlayStation 4 console turned out to be the ninth-most searched-for term of the year, while the rival Xbox One took 19th place.

Apple offerings peppered the top 100 searches of 2013, demonstrating the manufacturer's continued healthy standing with regard to mindshare. iOS 7 took 11th place. The iPad Air and iPad mini also took spots in the top 100 searches.
