Notion Ink launches Adam II tablet with thin ticker display on side

updated 12:30 pm EST, Mon December 16, 2013

Initial launch of Adam II in India, other regions expected in future

Notion Ink has finally launched its follow-up to the Adam tablet, one which offers an unusual secondary display. Accompanying the 10.1-inch, 1280x800 IPS LCD screen on the Adam II is a 100x5-resolution ticker-style display mounted on the side, offering up notifications and contextual data in a way that resembles the spine of a book or magazine.

Running on a 1.5GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor with quad-core Mali 400 graphics, the Adam II has 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage expandable by microSD. A pair of 3.15-megapixel cameras capable of 720p video recording are also included on the back and front, with connectivity provided over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, optional 3G, and Mini HDMI, while the 6,000mAh battery offers . Unlike the original Adam, Android Police reports that it is apparently closer to stock Android 4.2.2 than a customized version.

The Adam II is on sale in India for RS16,500 ($625) for the Wi-Fi model and RS19,000 ($305) for the 3G version. Though only in India for the moment, Notion Ink is currently planning to release the tablet in other regions in the future.
