Apple's Remote app sees update, adds iTunes Radio support
On Thursday, Apple updated its remote-control app for Mac or PC iTunes control, called Remote, to version 4.1 (free). The only listed improvement is a significant one: the ability to control iTunes Radio as well as music library, Apple TV and other playback. Apple had previously updated the app to the iOS 7 last month. The free app now handles both user-created and pre-programmed iTunes Radio stations, a service that is available currently only to US account holders.
Instapaper named App of the Week, available free
One of the best-known "read it later" article storage apps, Instapaper, is this week's App of the Week on the App Store, a designation that makes one normally paid app free of charge for a week. Normally, the app sells for $5, and the promotion is the first time it has been available for free. It saves and stores online web articles in a clean, uncluttered format that makes for easier reading, even when offline. The app integrates with over 150 other apps, making it possible to save articles from a variety of sites and programs.
Apple Support portal gets cleaner, more visual look
Apple has once again updated its opening page on its support website, offering larger images and a cleaner, more open-ended design clearly inspired by iOS 7. The design of the other pages on the support site remains the same, with only the home page changed -- however, the new design features a scrolling gallery of Apple products, making it easier for users to find support for a given product or service without having to leave the front page. The Apple support communities section and phone number for AppleCare support is now more prominent as well.
