Rovio releases Angry Birds Go! racing game for iOS

App Store gets new Angry Birds racer

Rovio has released the latest addition to its Angry Birds series of Apps on iOS with Angry Birds Go! The new entry in the popular franchise is a Mario Kart-like downhill racer with the eponymous fowls facing off against each other, as well as their ever-present porcine nemeses. The entry also brings into play a number of physical toys that open up new items in the game's virtual world.

The new Angry Birds game is the 14th entry in the franchise, which has seen the Birds go into space, off to Rio, and to a galaxy far, far away. The new cart racing game, though, is the first in which the Birds have gone into the third dimension, and it required the construction of a new engine.

As with Nintendo's well-known Mario Kart series, Angry Birds Go! has standard racetracks, stunt roads, and other racing environments. Each of these is derived from some element of the Angry Birds franchise, as are the characteristics of the carts and power-ups.

Throughout the game, players can also scan in their Rovio Telepods in order to unlock new features. Telepods were introduced with Angry Birds Star Wars II, and the Hasbro-produced physical toys are available at physical retailers and online.

Angry Birds Go! is now available as a free download from the App Store. The 97.7MB download requires an iPhone, iPod, or iPad running iOS 6.0 or later.
