Twitter sees redesign, new features with version 6.0

Twitter on Tuesday released updates for both the iOS and Android versions of its mobile app, bringing a redesign and new features for users. The updates pack a number of enhancements, and they give users the ability to share photos via Direct Message. The updates also add new capabilities with regard to push notifications, letting users keep better track of their closer friends on Twitter.

Version 6.0 has a redesigned look and feel, with Home, Activity, and Discover now available by swiping in Timelines. It also adds easier access to a user's Direct Messages. Once within Direct Messages, users can send and receive photos via that feature. They can also share photos received or sent from Direct Messages.

Twitter also added a feature where users can receive notifications from within their networks. Users can also choose to view replies, retweets, and favorites from only the people that they follow. They can also choose which people they will receive push notifications from. The update also adds the ability to favorite a profile in order to receive a push notification any time that profile tweets.

The iOS version of Twitter is available as a free download from the iTunes App store. The 18.9MB download requires an iPad, iPhone, or iPod running iOS 6.0 or higher. The Android version is also a free download in the Google Play Store. That version's size varies according to the device, and its operating system requirements vary according to the device.
