Apple Store now offering iPhone 5s with 1-3 day shipping

Production finally catching up with demand in time for holidays

At one of the best possible times, Apple's production of the iPhone 5s appears to be catching up with demand, allowing worldwide online Apple Stores to offer the highly-prized smartphone -- even in the prized gold color -- with a shipping estimate of just 1-3 days for all carriers and capacities, the first time this has happened since its debut in September. The 64-bit smartphone, which has seen delays so severe that on occasion Apple's website offered no specific timetable for delivery, is now much more widely available.

Both stores and online resellers have stock of the iPhone 5s in all colors and capacities, the result of Apple shifting some production of the iPhone 5c over to help with demand. The iPhone 5c, according to recent reports, has been no slouch either -- selling somewhere between 40 and 50 percent of the quantity of the iPhone 5s, as befits a model that is essentially a repackaged version of last year's iPhone 5.

However, the iPhone 5s offers significantly advanced capabilities, speed, 64-bit processing (a first for a commercial smartphone) and advanced camera technologies. Its announcement has caused the entire cellphone industry to pivot to trying to be the second to produce a 64-bit smartphone, once again following Apple's lead.

Most recently, Apple's US online store listed shipping times of three to five days, while European and other stores will still delayed by up to two weeks. Currently North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific stores all have the iPhone 5s listed for 1-3 day shipping. Contract-free models, however, are still constrained to 1-2 weeks for unclear reasons. Customers wishing to obtain an iPhone 5s before Christmas have until December 12 to order, or can visit a reseller or carrier in their area.
