updated 11:10 pm EST, Mon December 2, 2013

Mac, PC, iOS, Android versions all available to qualified institutions

After a reveal in October, Microsoft has launched the Student Advantage program, giving free access to Microsoft Office software. The Student Advantage program is an initiative by Microsoft that gives attendees of schools and universities that have site licenses for Office 365 access to current software Office releases. Office 2011 is provided for Mac students, with a version of Office 2013 available for Windows users.

Microsoft claims that 35,000 educational institutions are now qualified for the offer, which gives the students a ProPlus Office 365 access package, complete with Access and Lync for Windows users. The offer is a $12 per month per user value.

Included in the offer are Office ProPlus for PC using Office 2013 as the base application, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Lync, and InfoPath. Alternatively, users have access to Office ProPlus for Mac with Office 2011 as the base application, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Office Mobile for iPhone, and Office Mobile for Android are also included in the offer. Each license allows users to run Office on up to five computers, and five mobile devices per user.
