Smaller Nokia Windows RT tablet rumored for release early next year
Nokia could be planning to release a smaller Windows RT tablet in the coming months, one that would in theory compliment its current 10.1-inch Lumia 2520, according to a new rumor. The Lumia 2020, thought to be the eight-inch "Illusionist" tablet that surfaced earlier this month, could be heading to market in the first quarter of 2014.
Sources of Digitimes believe that the Lumia 2020 would be launched in the same mid to high-range of specifications as its larger stablemate. The earlier murmurs suggested that it would retain the stylus support, despite the lack of other Windows RT devices being supplied with the accessory. Aside from a smaller display, it is possible that the device would also have marginally downgraded internals, in order to compete more directly with the large seven-inch Android tablet on price, though keeping the specifications up as suggested in the rumor would make it more expensive, and in turn harder for potential customers to opt for it over a cheaper Android or a similar specification iPad.

Though the proposed acquisition of Nokia's mobile phone business by Microsoft may effectively kill such a product from being produced in the next few months, Microsoft may find that keeping the project alive would be useful, even if it does directly compete with its own Surface line.
