Console war kicks off anew as Xbox matches Sony

Microsoft's Xbox One game console has sold more than one million units in the first 24 hours since its release. Microsoft announced the sales milestone on Saturday, confirming to Reuters that its new console was off to a fast sales start. The launch of the Xbox One signals the real commencement of the next generation of the "console wars," with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo now all having released their home console entries.

The brisk sales of the device have led to sell-outs at most retailers that carry it. Microsoft executives say that the company is working to meet demand.

Electronista has taken a first look at the Xbox One, and our review will come soon.

"We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy at Xbox.

The Xbox One launched in 13 countries, and its million first-day sales is the high point for any of Microsoft's Xbox consoles. Microsoft's chief rival in the gaming business, Sony, also sold a million units of its new console, the PlayStation 4. The PS4, though, launched last week in only the United States and Canada.
