updated 03:12 pm EST, Wed November 20, 2013

Android 4.4 update remains on schedule

In a tweet from its corporate Twitter account, HTC confirmed that Verizon-based HTC One owners would still receive their updates to Android 4.4 by the end of January. The announcement came by way of an assurance that the company's current delay in delivering Android 4.3 to those customers would not affect the next update to 4.4 The Verizon One is supposed to see an update to Android 4.3 some time in December.

HTC promised an Android update for its flagship device before the end of January, but delays in delivering Android 4.3 had some device owners and tech commentators concerned about the company's ability to do just that.

That update will come in a two-part package, according to HTC. The first will be a small update to prepare the devices for Android 4.3. The second will be the full-on update, and that one is slated for December.

HTC will roll out Sense 5.5 and Android 4.4 to all North American One models by the end of January. Neither the manufacturer nor any of its carrier partners have given any times more specific.

The Droid DNA will also see an update to KitKat, according to HTC. That Verizon-specific phone will get an update to the newest version of Android some time before the end of the first quarter of 2014.
