Acer adds to C720 Chromebook catalog with $200 model

updated 10:33 am EST, Fri November 15, 2013

Reduction in price caused through lowering RAM in Acer Chromebook

Just one month after it launched the C720 Chromebook, Acer is introducing a marginally cheaper model. The C720-2848 is externally similar to the C720, with its internal specifications matching its stablemate too, except that the 4GB of RAM in the original has been lowered to just 2GB, with the price also dropping from $250 to $200.

The entry-level model uses a Haswell-based Intel Celeron processor clocked at 1.4GHz, with ZDNet reporting there to be 16GB of storage. The Chrome OS device still has an 11.6-inch, 1366x768-resolution display, a 1366x720 webcam, Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, an SD card slot and HDMI-out, along with a 3,950mAh battery said to last for 8.5 hours. 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years, 12 Gogo inflight Wi-Fi passes, and 60 days of Google Music All Access are also bundled in the device.

The 2.76-pound C720-2848 is on sale now from Amazon and Best Buy, with the Acer store set to stock the notebook in December.
