Windows daily downloads increase 38.56 percent since June

Microsoft's Windows 8 platform continues to see slow improvement, though it still lags far behind Android and iOS in terms of the new computing paradigm. The software giant revealed to developers this week that Windows and Windows 8.1 see roughly 1.7 million daily application downloads, according to TechCrunch. During the month of October, roughly 51.2 million paid and free applications were downloaded from the Windows Store.

That latter figure represents a 38.56 percent increase from Microsoft's June totals, when only 37 million apps were downloaded, for an average of 1.23 million downloads per day. By comparison, Apple's App Store saw roughly 75 million apps downloaded per day between June and October of this year.

The comparison is not completely apt, as the Windows Store covers a wider range of devices than does Apple's App Store, including tablets, notebooks, and desktops. Also, the App Store is the only way to install programs on iOS devices, whereas Windows 8 users have a bit more leeway in application sourcing. Still, the figures reflect the continuing difficulties Microsoft has had in getting consumers to pay attention to its Windows brand in the wake of a massive shift in computing.
