Google Glass-compatible frames for prescription lenses due in January

Rochester Optical is working on creating frames for prescription lenses that will work with Google Glass. The eyewear manufacturer is hoping to capitalize on the apparent lack of progress that Google has made towards modifying its existing Explorer Edition headsets for use by those who normally wear glasses, by designing frames that could easily accept the wearable device.

Tim Moore, directory of technology at Rochester Optical, advised to The Verge that the company currently owns four Explorer Edition headsets, and using its lab facilities, wants to make frames for Glass in such a way that they could also be worn without the headset itself. Some designs will be matching the current range of colors available to Glass users, with Moore saying "We're gonna come up with some contrasting designs that are very fashionable and trendy." Slated for sale in January, Moore claims that the glasses for nearsighted users will probably cost the same as a standard pair of spectacles.

While the rumors suggested that this is a partnership between Google and Rochester Optical, it is being done without any sort of deal made with the tech giant. The latest refresh of Glass appears to be more suitable for mounting onto existing prescription frames, and Google employees were also said to be attending May's Google I/O developer event wearing versions modified and mounted onto normal glasses, but little else about Google's plan for glasses wearers is known.
