Apple updates Xcode to 5.0.2, fixes bugs

updated 09:00 pm EST, Mon November 11, 2013

Addresses flaw that caused debugging crash with iOS 6 devices

After sending a "Golden Master" version to developers last week, Apple has updated Xcode to version 5.0.2, which adds support for iOS 7.0.3 (the current version of iOS). It is also largely a bug-fix release from the 5.0.1 version, which was released alongside OS X Mavericks on October 22. The new update fixes problems that caused occasional hangs in the iOS simulator during app install or when debugging, as well as during debugging iOS 6 devices.

The notes also list "additional bug fixes and stability improvements," possibly referring to improvements in iCloud Keychain, which was introduced with iOS 7.0.3. Xcode 5.x include SDKs for Mavericks (10.9), Mountain Lion (10.8) and iOS 7, featuring "continuous integration bots" that help build and test iOS and OS X apps on OS X Server, a Source Control menu that can create new Git repositories on Mac servers, and a Debug Gauge for energy usage in apps, reflecting Apple's recent interest in power conservation and efficiency inside applications.
