Google Fiber Version 2.0 adds iPhone support and DVR management
Google's Fiber TV app for iOS received an update this week. The app allows users to control their Google Fiber TV service from their iPhone or iPad, to view content on-demand, or manage DVR recordings. Version 2.0 includes the ability to schedule, organize, and control playback of DVR recordings from their iOS device. Additionally included in the app release are bug fixes and tracking improvements. The Google Fiber app is available for free on iTunes, and requires iOS 6.0 or later.
Amazon's upcoming Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 marketed as iPad Air rival
Amazon's latest e-reader tablet, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, is currently available for pre-order -- and with its official release coming next week, Amazon has been promoting the product as a competitor to Apple's new iPad Air. An ad on Amazon's site describes the kindle fire HDX 8.9 as 20 per cent lighter, 950,000 more pixels and $120 less than iPad Air, clearly directly targeting Apple's latest tablet release but neglecting to mention its far more limited capabilities.
The Kindle Fire will retail with prices starting at $380 on November 7, while the iPad air began to hit store shelves earlier today at a base cost of $499.
