People with problems allowed to contact AppleCare on their own
Sources have revealed more details of Apple's iPhone 5s battery recall. The people explain that while Apple will be individually contacting customers with affected serial numbers, a 5s owner can also contact AppleCare on their own if they feel they're having battery trouble. At that point an AppleCare worker will check the phone's serial number against the list of eligible replacements, and issue one if it fits; otherwise, regular support procedures will take over.
People will have several options for conducting a replacement. These include setting up a Genius Bar appointment, going to an authorized reseller, or having the unit shipped by mail. Choosing the third option will require people to send the defective phone back via a supplied shipping container.
