HTC confirms update windows for flagship

HTC has quickly followed the announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat with its own declaration that the HTC One will receive an update to the new operating system within 90 days. The Taiwanese manufacturer's most recent flagship device signaled a move by the company to push quality in design, and HTC looks to be trying to match that quality with timely updates to its devices. HTC has not yet commented on when the One's spinoff devices -- the One max and One mini -- will get the update.

HTC also said that the Google Play edition HTC One would receive the update even faster, with that edition getting the new Android version within the next 15 days. The Developer edition and unlocked versions will get it within 30 days.

HTC, according to Engadget will keep its SenseUI at version 5.5, even with the update. The company has not detailed how new feature such as always-listening voice commands could be implemented with HTC's phone.

HTC America president Jason Mackenzie said on Thursday that the company is committed to timely updates for its devices and that users should expect regular updates in line with what it just promised for the One.

"[W]e're not going to [roll out updates] in a lazy fashion," Mackenzie said. "We're going to make it a priority to have every dot release out on the One within 90 days."
