Google expands custom URLs for Google+ to all users

All social network users to gain vanity URLs in the next week

Google is slowly expanding the availability of custom addresses for Google+ accounts, after initially rolling it out to prominent users and businesses in August. The change, which will allow normal users to use a shorter vanity URL, will be gradually introduced to the rest of the social network's population over the next week.

Vic Gundotra of Google advised that the option to add custom URLs will be visible on accounts, once it passes a number of criteria. Custom URL claimants need to have an account that is at least 30 days old, is followed by at least 10 other accounts, and have a profile photo, before they will be added to the queue.

The update to vanity URLs comes the morning after the company showed a number of new features in Google+, including improved Hangouts, updates to Auto Awesome for photographs, and the introduction of Auto Awesome to videos.
