Uses same 12MP CMOS sensor as XZ-2, uses 28-300mm zoom lens

Olympus has launched a new camera designed to appeal to DSLR users wanting a compact second camera. The Stylus 1 premium compact houses a 12-megapixel 1/1,7-inch BSI CMOS sensor, the same one found in last year's XZ-2, assisted by the TruePic VI image processor, and a 28-300mm f/2.8 I.ZUIKO zoom lens that can retract fully into the body and behind an automatic lens cap.

Inheriting the Fast Touch AF system from the Olympus Pen range, the Stylus 1 comes with a 3-inch 1.04 million-dot touchscreen on the back that can be tilted, a 1.44 million-dot electronic viewfinder. The Hybrid Control Ring and zoom lever on the left-hand side is used to switch between various modes and adjust shot settings, with a shutter speed ranging between 1/2000 of a second and a full minute, 1080p video recording with lower-resolution high-speed video at 120fps and 240fps, and remote control over Wi-Fi also included.

Set to ship in December, the Olympus Stylus 1 will cost $700.
