Sprint 4G LTE network now covers 230 markets

Sprint on Tuesday announced the expansion of its 4G LTE service to 45 new markets across the United States. The addition of the new markets means that Sprint's 4G LTE service now covers 230 markets. In addition to adding 4G LTE in new markets, Sprint made a sizable expansion of its enhanced 3G service, improving signal strength, coverage, and call quality.

The newly covered markets are detailed in a posting to Sprint's Newsroom page. Most notably, Sprint expanded coverage in New York City, with 4G LTE service now available in parts of Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Sprint has not yet, though, rolled out mobile broadband coverage to other areas such as San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Sprint introduced its 4G LTE network in July of 2012, and the carrier has been steadily rolling out coverage to smaller locations since. The carrier is significantly behind U.S. wireless leaders AT&T and Verizon, both of which cover the vast majority of the country.
