Apple to offer Personal Pickup for iPad Air at launch, reports say

updated 03:54 pm EDT, Mon October 28, 2013

May force people to wake up early to secure a purchase

Apple will offer Personal Pickup for the iPad Air starting on November 1st, multiple reports claim. The option lets people place an order for a product online, but pick it up at a local Apple Store. If Pickup does apply to the Air at launch, it should become available at the same time as regular online orders, which are due to go live at midnight Pacific time, or 3AM Eastern.

With the iPhone 5s, Apple deliberately withheld Personal Pickup for some time. Allowing the option from the start might have prevented walk-in shoppers from having any chance at buying the device, since many units would already be spoken for. Apple could face a similar crush with the Air, but iPad launches are typically less intense than iPhone introductions.
