Deal includes device exposure, title partnership, exclusive NBA content
The National Basketball Association has signed a deal with Samsung, said to be worth approximately $100 million. The three-year deal will see the electronics producer providing the NBA with tablets and televisions, which will be used by referees, players, coaches, and other NBA staff during the games themselves, replacing a previous agreement between the NBA, HP, and Haier Group.
Though the deal will provide Samsung with considerable exposure of its devices during matches, the Wall Street Journal reports that the NBA will be providing customized video content for Samsung devices, something which the company hopes will draw the more ardent fans to its products. Samsung will also be a title partner for such events as the NBA Summer League, the NBA All-Star Jam Session, and the NBA Draft.
This is not the only time that Samsung has worked with the NBA in some form. LeBron James endorsed the Galaxy Note II in the previous season, while former Brooklyn Nets owner Jay Z signed a deal with Samsung to provide his album to device owners, with a three-minute commercial during an NBA Finals game promoting the offer.
