PS4 will get 300MB download on launch date

Sony has confirmed that when its PlayStation 4 video game console launches in November, it will require a day-one software update. The update, approximately 300MB in size, will bring the PS4 to version 1.50 of its system software. The electronics giant says that the update will be necessary to enable a number of features.

Software update version 1.50 will allow users to access the Remote Play feature on their devices, letting them play PS4 games over Wi-Fi networks on a PlayStation Vita system. It will also enable the system to play Blu-Ray discs and DVDs.

In addition to those features, the update will enable Second Screen features, letting users have their smartphones and tablets as an additional input device. That functionality will be made possible by downloading a mobile app, which will be released prior to the PS4's launch.

The update also brings a Play while Downloading feature, the ability to broadcast and spectate gameplay, a multi-login feature, and a voice chat feature. Other features will not be available at launch, including the PS4's suspend/resume mode. Sony will provide additional information about the system update in the near future.
