Nintendo Wii shipments to Europe halted, US shipments unaffected

North America to continue Nintendo Wii sales over holiday season

North America is the last major market to still receive shipments of the Nintendo Wii, after an announcement concerning European availability. Shipments of the game console to retailers in Europe have now ceased, following a similar announcement covering Japan earlier this week, but shipments of the motion-sensitive console to the United States will not be affected in any way.

The European discontinuation of the console was confirmed by a Nintendo UK spokesperson to MCV. "Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued, however there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience," said the representative, before advising that the Wii U will work with Wii games and accessories. The Wii Mini, a discounted version of the Wii that lacks an Internet connection, will continue to be sold in the region.

A Nintendo of America representative told GameSpot that the Japan and Europe announcements are just for their specific regions, advising "There is no change in status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season."
