New YouTube music service rumor claims possible offline caching

updated 06:58 am EDT, Thu October 24, 2013

Second music streaming service from Google could still launch this year

Rumors of a YouTube music streaming service have resurfaced, with a new report providing a lot more detail about Google's potential plans. It is now thought by report sources that the tiered service, in a similar vein to Spotify, iTunes Radio, and its own Google Play Music All Access, will be launching before the end of the year.

As previously reported, two tiers will be available to users, according to Billboard. A free tier with unlimited, on-demand access to full tracks is planned for all platforms, including mobile, with revenues stemming from advertisements. The second paid tier is thought to cost around $10 per month, removes advertising, and allow users to cache music for offline listening. It is also suggested that, thanks to Google's licensing with record companies for a premium on-demand service, the paid tier could work with Google Glass, or also offer complete album streaming instead of the music videos currently uploaded to YouTube.

YouTube declined to pass comment on the rumor, but did advise "We're always working on new and better ways for people to enjoy YouTube content across all screens, and on giving partners more opportunities to reach their fans."
