Best Buy giving out gift cards for working iPads
Electronics retailer Best Buy announced on Tuesday that it will be offering at least $200 in trade-in value for any working third- or fourth-generation iPad or iPad mini through November 9. The value will be given in the form of a Best Buy gift card that can be used toward the purchase of anything else in the store. The value of the gift card may be dependent upon the tablet's model and condition, CNet reported.
In order to qualify for a gift card, the iPad being traded in must power on in order to be considered working. Tablets with cracked screens or water damage are ineligible for the offer. The offer is valid at all Best Buy stores in the United States.
The announcement came on the heels of Apple's announcement of a new full-size iPad Air and a new iPad mini with Retina display. The Air retails starting at $499 for a 16GB model, and the Retina mini starts at $399. Taking advantage of Best Buy's offer can cut the price of the new Retina mini in half, while knocking 40 percent off the entry-level Air.
The offer is just the latest from Best Buy, which is one among a number of retailers aiming to capitalize on the strong resale value retention of Apple products. Best Buy has run numerous iPhone-specific trade-in programs in an effort to get consumers through the doors of its physical locations.
