updated 10:45 pm EDT, Tue October 22, 2013

Update adds speed, Mavericks improvements

The Pixelmator Team today announced Pixelmator 3.0 FX, the most advanced version of Pixelmator to date, featuring Layer Styles, Liquify Tools, and support for new features in OS X Mavericks. The update delivers improved performance with its new image editing engine. Additionally, some specific OS X 10.9 Mavericks functionality has been implemented, for further improvements to the app for upgraders to Apple's new version of the OS.

Pixelmator 3.0 FX introduces Layer Styles to quickly apply shadows and inner shadows, gradients, outlines, or reflections. The new Liquify Tools allow users to lightly twist an element, add an artistic detail, or distort the entire image.

For the 3.0 version of Pixelmator, OS X Core Image, OpenCL, OpenGL, and Grand Central dispatch have been combined to boost speed. Mavericks-specific functionality such as App Nap, Compressed Memory, and advanced multi display support have been implemented for additional functionality and speed.

Pixelmator 3.0 FX is available today as a free upgrade for previous users from the Mac App Store. It retails for $15 for new users.
