Nokia Lumia 1520, 1320 Windows Phone phablets revealed

updated 06:00 am EDT, Tue October 22, 2013

Six-inch Nokia phablets include premium, mid-range offerings

Nokia has revealed a pair of Lumia phablets, a first for the manufacturer. Both the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 1320 sport six-inch displays and Windows Phone 8, and though the two are superficially similar, the Lumia 1520 is a premium offering, while the 1320 is meant to be a more affordable, lower-specification model.

The Lumia 1520, codenamed "Bandit," uses a 1080p ClearBlack IPS display with Nokia Glance, backed by a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. On the back is a 20-megapixel PureView camera with auto focus and Zeiss optics, with a 1.2MP webcam on the front. Offering connections over Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi with Channel Bonding, and LTE, it also has a 3,400mAh battery.

The lower-specification Lumia 1320, known as "Batman" during development, opts for a lower-resolution 1280x720 ClearBlack IPS LCD screen, the less-powerful dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 clocked at 1.7GHz, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage with MicroSD expandability. A 5-megapixel camera with auto focus on the back, a front-facing 640x480 webcam on the front, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, LTE, and a 3,4000mAh battery are also included.

Both the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 will ship in the fourth quarter of this year. The Lumia 1520, in a choice of yellow, white, black, and glossy red, will cost $749, and will initially ship in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, France, and Germany before spreading to other markets. The Lumia 1320, in orange, yellow, white, and black options, will be priced at $339, and will reach China and Vietnam before other Asian markets, India, and Europe.
