Xbox One page mentions possible cross-platform apps

Microsoft may allow apps made for Windows 8 to run on the Xbox One after launch, according to one manufacturer. Dell's online store makes the claim that the upcoming Microsoft game console will be able to run the apps created for the desktop operating system, something that Microsoft has yet to publicly confirm itself.

The marketing text, spotted by the NeoGAF forum, states "With all your favorite Windows 8 apps able to be run on and synced to your Xbox One, now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience." While this does seemingly suggest that the console will offer the capability, it could also refer to specific cross-platform apps that already operate on the Xbox 360, such as Netflix and YouTube, rather than Metro-style apps created for Windows 8.

It is still a possibility though, as Microsoft did reveal that the Xbox One effectively uses three different architectures, in the form of the Xbox OS for the gaming side, the Windows kernel, and a third to communicate between the two. The company is also working on bringing Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox closer together in terms of software development, something which could possibly lead to more cross-platform apps in the future.
