German Galaxy S 4 receives Jelly Bean update first, more to follow

Samsung has started to roll out its Android 4.3 update to the Galaxy S4. The update, which leaked earlier this week, brings a number of improvements to Android itself as well as Samsung-specific changes, and also allows the Galaxy S 4 to communicate with the Galaxy Gear smart watch over Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy.

Support for OpenGL 3.0, TRIM, and ANT+ are touted in the update, according to SamMobile. Samsung Wallet will be preloaded, along with an implementation of Samsung KNOX, a new Samsung browser, keyboard, reading mode, and TouchWiz launcher. RAM management improvements, changes to the way the display reproduces color, and new camera firmware will also form part of the update.

The update is initially rolling out to devices in Germany, and looks to be a gradual release. Even though Samsung is providing the update as an over-the-air and Samsung Kies download, individual carriers may extend the delay in the software reaching phones further.

Samsung has previously revealed it will also be bringing Android 4.3 to the Galaxy S III, at roughly the same time as the Galaxy S 4.
