US Cellular to carry iPhone 5s, 5c starting November 8

First time ever carrying iPhone on America's fifth-largest network

The fifth-largest cell carrier in the United States, US Cellular, will begin selling the iPhone for the first starting on Friday, November 8, according to an ad on its webpage. Oddly, smaller carriers than US Cellular were able to debut the smartphones ahead of it, and there are no carrier-specific plans, pricing or other details yet available. Obtaining the iPhone at long last should help US Cellular increase its subscriber base as well as help retain customers that would otherwise be lost to competitors.

The iPhone 5s in particular will provide the carrier with a big boost. Despite being available for only 10 of the 90 days in the last calendar quarter, the premium handset outsold all competitors on every one of the four larger networks: At&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. The iPhone 5c was, depending on the individual carrier, the second- or third-selling smartphone, with only Samsung's Galaxy S4 able to occasionally take second place -- even though all of the competing Android- and Windows Phone-based models were widely available through the entire quarter.
