New video shows Nexus 5 in action

Clearest look to date at Nexus 5

The newest Nexus handset from Google and LG has been one of the tech industry's worst-kept secrets, and now a working unit has shown up in a video posted online this week. The video, spotted by Android Police, shows what appears to be a Nexus 5 prototype running Android 4.4 KitKat. Further solidifying the notion that it is a prototype, the operating system the device is running still bears the name Google was going to give to its new Android iteration: Key Lime Pie.

The video confirms much of what was already known from previous leaks about the device. Until now, though, the device has never been shown in action, only glimpsed in incomplete photos and in schematics from leaked manuals.

The video also gives a good look at the operations of Android 4.4 KitKat. It is, as previous reports have held, largely similar in look and function to its preceding versions. Google is said to have focused less on remaking the look of its mobile platform and more toward making it compatible with a wider range of devices. By some accounts, KitKat will run on mobile devices with as little as 512MB of RAM.

Both the Nexus 5 and the new version of Android are expected to be revealed some time this month, though Google has yet to announce anything. The Nexus 5 will likely launch with a $299 price tag, as did its predecessor.
