Carrier cancels orders that gave customers deal on Gear
T-Mobile has sent email notifications to some customers informing them that their discounted Galaxy Gear orders have been canceled and that they will have to re-order them at the regular price. Android news site Droid Life reported on Friday that T-Mobile customers had begun receiving the notifications, with the carrier noting that the device had been listed at an incorrect price. Recently, an online coupon code was publicized that would give customers 30 percent off of Samsung's new smart watch, knocking the price to $209 instead of $299, but it now appears that T-Mobile will not honor the coupon.
"Dear T-Mobile Customer," the email reads. "Our apologies. You recently ordered an item that was listed at an incorrect price: the Samsung Galaxy Geartm. We are unable to fulfill this transaction. Rest assured, your credit card has not been charged. You can reorder the Samsung Galaxy Gear at the correct price here. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for being a T-Mobile customer. We truly appreciate your business."
The Galaxy Gear launched to largely unimpressed reviews, with critics saying its interface is cumbersome and it lacks the features to justify its $300 price tag. One Samsung executive admitted that the device "lacks something special," though he said that future iterations might be better with more customer feedback. Samsung is already rumored to be working on a follow-up device.
