updated 12:52 pm EDT, Fri October 11, 2013

Device unveiling expected next week

Rumors and leaks surrounding Google's next-generation Nexus handset and the forthcoming Android 4.4 update have continued to roll in. The latest screenshots appear to show a KitKat build running on a Nexus 5, with an integrated tap-to-pay feature for making local payments via NFC.

The screenshots, which were posted on the Italian Android blog Tutto Android and noticed by BGR, also show a deeper level of control over location modes. The interface shows a choice between a standard GPS setting, a battery-saving mode that utilizes Wi-Fi and mobile networks to approximate the location, or a high-accuracy mode that combines all three methods.

Numerous leaks currently point to October 15 as the likely unveiling date for the Nexus 5 and KitKat update. The handset is expected to feature a 4.95-inch display with 1920x1080 resolution, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and a choice between 16GB or 32GB of integrated storage.

Separate reports suggest Google may choose to retain its $299 base price for the 16GB model, despite significant upgrades over the Nexus 4, however the company has yet to publicly confirm most details.
