Nikon D610 announced, increased shutter speed compared to D600

Faster 6fps shutter, 3fps quiet continuous shutter mode in D610

Nikon is adding more speed to the successor of its full-frame D600 DSLR, along with a few minor tweaks, as rumored in August. The Nikon D610, using a 24.3-megapixel FX-format sensor with an EXPEED 3 image processor, ups the 5.5fps shooting rate in the D600 to 6fps, along with a new Quiet Continuous Shutter mode which quietens the shutter but keeps a 3fps shooting rate.

Offering a range of ISO 50 ISO 25,600, it boasts a 39-point auto focus system, with seven of nine cross-type sensors able to retain auto focus up to f/8, and scene recognition system that uses a 3D Color Matrix Metering II 2016 pixel RGB sensor to analyze a scene and adjust exposure, white balance, and focus.

The optical viewfinder has 100-percent frame coverage, and is joined by a 3.2-inch, 921K-dot LCD screen on the back. Full HD 1080p video at 24 and 30fps, uncompressed HDMI output, and twin SD card slots with support for SDXC and UHS cards are also included. Onboard modes for HDR and time-lapse photography are also included, while an optional wireless mode adapter will allow it to connect to a smartphone or tablet for image sharing.

Shipping later this month, the Nikon D610 will cost $2,000 for the body alone, or $2,600 when included with an AF-S NIKKOR 24-85MM F/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens.
