Instagram confirms introduction of advertisements to feed in coming months

Instagram will be including advertisements to its photo and video feed. Confirming earlier reports in a blog post, the company advises that users in the United States will see "an occasional ad" in the mobile app in the coming months, with the initial advertisers consisting of a "handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community." User control of ads are also touted, with disliked marketing messages able to be hidden from view.
