SMC update addresses battery bug
Apple has released several firmware updates for its MacBook Pro and MacBook Air notebooks. The MacBook Pro Retina SMC update v1.1 addresses an issue that is said to cause slow frame rates when playing graphics-intensive games with the 15-inch model, along with separate issues relate to Power Nap, waking from sleep and fan control.
The MacBook Air SMC update v1.8 appears to serve a single purpose, resolving a glitch that causes some systems to unexpectedly shut down or stop functioning when the battery exceeds 1000 charge cycles. A separate update for the MacBook Pro is designed to fix the same problem.
All three updates are immediately available directly from Apple's support site. [Retina MacBook download - 504KB] [MacBook Pro SMC download - 1MB] [MacBook Air SMC download - 982KB]
