New font rights features let clients pick authorized fonts
Extensis has released Universal Type Server 4, an upgrade to its font activation backend for publishing and illustration businesses. The new version includes plugins for the CC versions of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InCopy. It also carries over the QuickComp feature from Suitcase Fusion 5, which lets people preview and compare multiple fonts simultaneously using templates for different publication types.
New font license management are said to make it easier to track licensing information, and convey that information to client users. Client apps can now see which fonts are licensed for which purposes, and filter them accordingly.
Some other improvements include custom color previews, a faster, more reliable PostgreSQL database, updated cache cleaning and corruption check tools, and compatibility with the latest versions of OS X and Windows. UTS4 is available in Lite, Professional, and Enterprise editions. Lite is $1,395 new, or $698 as an upgrade. Professional and Enterprise upgrades are both free with an annual service agreement.
