Samsung admits Gear watch 'lacks something special'

updated 08:59 am EDT, Thu September 26, 2013

Promises to improve interface, experience

A Samsung representative has reportedly admitted that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch may not be living up to expectations. In an interview with Korea Times, which was referenced by UnwiredView, an unnamed Samsung official noted that "we've acknowledged that our Gear lacks something special."

"With more investment for user interface and user experience, Samsung devices will be better in terms of customer satisfaction," the official added.

Despite the apparent negative comments from one Samsung staffer, the company's executive vice president for marketing in the mobile division, Lee Young-hee, downplayed rumors that the company is already working on a replacement to the Gear.

"The Galaxy Gear is a wow product. It's a wholly new and must-have accessory," said Young-hee, adding that the device is "definitely receiving a warm response."

The Gear was met with mixed reception, as some critics found its interface to be cumbersome and its overall features to fall short of deserving a $300 price tag.
